De Tukkers champions hopes continue against Heracles Almelo

By: Tucker | January 25th, 2009

The “Tukkers” race for a Eredivisie championship continues under Steve McClaren’s leadership as they face Heracles Almelo today. While Gert Heerkes’ Almelo club is mid-table they are troublesome at home and lost only once this year. This is partially because of their artificial surface and many teams have a difficult time adjusting to its speed as well as their strong home crowd support. As expected for this match Polman Stadium is sold out and they’ll be very vocal in their fortress and although Twente has a strong record of success against them, winning the last three meetings, they will be tested to keep their eight match unbeaten streak. With AZ’s winning ways continuing yesterday with a 2-0 defeat of De Graafschap, Twente needs a full three points a stay within seven points of the first place club so this bodes well for an exciting match. The only absence for Steve McClaren health concern is Eljero Elia, who is questionable and will undergo a pre-match fitness test.
